NeurOptimal® neurofeedback + support

Neurosoma is a group of qualified and experienced mental health practitioners who are also certified NeurOptimal® neurofeedback brain trainers. We provide services to private clients, NDIS participants (Self-managed and Plan-managed), corporate and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) and some workplace OHS and insurance programs.

We find the best outcomes for clients, whether experiencing a mental health condition, or just wanting to manage stress, sleep better and feel good, is to provide coaching and counselling as well as neurofeedback. This is especially useful when renting a home neurofeedback system from us – you have neurofeedback in the comfort of your own home at a time that suits you, as well as support, coaching and progress-monitoring by our experienced practitioners at no extra cost.

What is a session like?

In your first session, you will be invited to fill out a few quick forms designed to help you measure your progress, but diagnosis and evaluation of specific symptoms is unnecessary for it to work effectively. This saves you both time and money.

Then you will sit in a comfortable chair and simply relax. Two tiny sensors are applied to your scalp and earclips to your ears. These sensors allow NeurOptimal® to read the delicate electrical activity of your brain, much like an ECG records your heart. You listen to music and can watch a visual display, although many people choose to close their eyes and tune out. Children sometimes like to play a game, watch a movie or read a book.

How many sessions?

Because everyone’s central nervous system is different, it is not possible to predict exactly how your brain will respond to the information NeurOptimal® provides but because the developer of NeurOptimal, Zengar Institute, has over 3 million hours of surveys with NeurOptimal® we can make some general predictions. The good thing is you don’t have to take it on faith and trust it will help you — you’ll know pretty quickly by how you feel and we have progress tracking tools to document your changes.

The number of sessions depends partly upon your goals. If you are using NeurOptimal® to feel better quickly, you might decide after 10-12 sessions that you have made enough gains and stop. If you are looking for long term changes, 20-30 sessions is a better ballpark and you can stop at any time and pick it up again later if you choose. Training is incremental and any training done in the past will always serve you well should you do more sessions in the future — no session is ever wasted.

NDIS Recovery Coaching

Recovery Coaches combine the principles of person-centred care and recovery-orientated practice with coaching to assist you to take more control of your life, identify and meet your goals and better manage the complex challenges of day-to-day living with a psychosocial disability. Recovery Coaches are qualified mental health practitioners who also have ‘lived experience’ of mental health conditions, either by caring for a person with a psychosocial disability or by managing their own mental health condition. Recovery Coaching is a relatively recent NDIS-funded item and we bundle both the neurofeedback and the Recovery Coaching together into one fee.
